**Kate Fitzsimons with NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian at 2018 NSW Women of the Year Awards**

I am incredibly honoured to be named 2018 Cronulla Woman of the Year and attend the NSW Women of the Year Awards with the Hon. Mark Speakman on International Women’s Day, Thursday 8th March.

I cannot thank Mr Speakman enough for all the amazing support he’s given Nicole’s Foundation over the years and am so grateful for this special recognition for the difference we’re making with Nic’s legacy in the lives of over 50,000 young Aussies. (I say “we” because Mum’s name is just as deserving to be on this award too, she’s my rock in every way!)

I dedicate this award to the woman who is no longer in my life, but has by far the greatest influence on it -

Nicker’s, thank you for being my sister.

For teaching me how to live life to the fullest,

how to be brave and how to believe in myself even when I’m afraid.

I saw you battle through so many of those moments during your career as a dancer and journalist, and after every knock back, I’d see you rise to your feet - and try again.
